DESCRIPTION:Join us for the first instalment of our 2023 Business Breakfast series! \nWe will be joined by Class of 2006 FP James McNaught who is Lyon & Turnbull’s Associate Director for Glasgow and the West of Scotland. Lyon & Turnbull is Scotland’s premier\, and one of the longest established fine art auctioneers in the United Kingdom. \nJames is well versed in the ins and outs of building successful business relationships. He is also an expert in conducting valuations for private collectors\, wealth managers and private client lawyers. In particular\, James has an interest in Glasgow Collectors. He began his career with Lyon & Turnbull in 2012 and has since worked his way up the business. Throughout his decade with the company\, James has held posts in administration\, business development and valuation. DESCRIPTION:We will be joined by Class of 1991 FP\, John Clark for our next Business Breakfast. \nJohn is the Chief Commercial Officer for Arnold Clark Motor Group\, the UK’s largest independently owned\, family-run car retailer. \nWhilst studying for his BA Town & Country Planning\, and latterly his MSc in Marketing\, John gained vital experience in his family’s business. Officially joining the company in 1996\, John has worked across all areas of the business giving him a comprehensive overview of how the company works. Come 1999\, he received his first appointment within a managerial capacity at the Helensburgh Ford site. \nThroughout his 26 years with Arnold Clark\, John has held a variety of positions. These include Franchise/Brand Manager\, Group Franchise Director\, and most recently Chief Commercial Officer. Furthermore\, John was responsible for leading one of the UK’s largest Volkswagen retailers and establishing Arnold Clark’s car-buying service. \nDue to his services to the motor industry\, John also found himself the recipient of the Strathclyde University Stellar Leadership Award. \nOver the years\, John has witnessed many of Arnold Clark’s milestones\, such as reaching 300\,000 car sales in one year. Not only was the company the first UK motor-dealer to surpass £100 million in profit\, but also the first to exceed £200 million in profit. \nCurrently\, Arnold Clark is aiming to sell 500\,000 cars by 2025. At the same time\, the company are committed to reducing their carbon footprint by 33% by 2030. \nDuring his talk\, John will be discussing Arnold Clark’s 2030 transformation plan. His expertise covers media law\, professional negligence\, professional discipline\, insurance law\, commercial disputes\, procurement\, intellectual property\, human rights\, prescription and limitation\, and judicial review. He is the only Scottish silk to be ranked in seven separate practice areas by Chambers UK\, who place him as a Band 1 Silk in the areas of professional discipline\, professional negligence\, commercial dispute resolution\, media law\, medical negligence and public procurement.
