HSOG Spotlight: Ross Mackay (Class of 2009)

For the next instalment of our HSOG Spotlight campaign, we caught up with Former Pupil, Ross Mackay, from the Class of 2009.

Ross is the co-founder and CEO of daring foods. Daring are the creators of daring pieces – the world’s first clean label plant-based chicken. Made with a few simple natural ingredients, daring pieces are “clean, lean and packed with plant protein”.

The company started in Scotland and now has its headquarters in NYC. Ross along with his co-founder, Eliott, have taken the company through 2 rounds of funding of over 21 million USD. The company has expected sales of over 20 million USD in 2020. Daring pieces are currently being stocked in top US retailer Sprouts with over 370 locations and in thousands of food service locations throughout the US. It really is an exciting time for Daring.

Senior Deputy Rector, Mr Kenneth Robertson, was delighted to welcome Ross back to The High School of Glasgow in September 2019. Ross delivered the Jamieson Lecture and shared the story of his and Daring’s success to the current S6 pupils.

A recent interview with Ross on forbes.com can be found here.
