Annarosa Muscatelli

Name: Annarosa Muscatelli
Job: Senior Consultant, Cairney & Company
Industry: Charity and Fundraising
Class of: 2008
House: Moore

What do you do?

I am a Senior Consultant at Cairney & Company. We are a global company of consultants who use innovative and creative thinking to help our clients aim higher, fulfil their potential and make change happen.

Our work specialises in Integrated Advancement, Fundraising, International Strategy, Coaching and more! Additionally, we work with a huge variety of clients. They include some of the biggest universities both in the UK and overseas, to arts and medical charities. I never have the same day twice!

How did you get to where you are today?

Honestly, I would love to say it was fully calculated but when I left school I had *no idea* what I wanted to do. I discovered fundraising through a family friend whilst at university and fell in love with the sector. I always knew that the money raised could have a positive impact on the organisations it’s funding. However, what I didn’t realise was how much of a positive effect it can have on the life of the donor too. After spending years working closely with families who have lost loved ones and facilitating gifts in memory, I saw the power these gifts can have on both parties. It’s a very privileged position to be in.

In December last year, I made the move into consultancy. Being able to help organisations to achieve their goals, and hopefully change lives for the better through their work is a total joy. I get to work with incredible clients, amazing organisations, and a truly inspiring boss every day – I feel very lucky.

What is a standout memory of your time at The High School of Glasgow?

For me it was all the excellent extracurricular activities we had access to. From hockey and tennis, to jazz band and orchestra, to Latin and art society. Aside from an excellent education and a great sense of community, access to these brilliant activities really enriched the experience and taught me to multitask like a pro!

What one piece of advice would you give to current pupils and recent leavers as they look to their futures?

As you move on to whatever comes next, don’t forget to be yourself. You might admire others or aspire to have their attributes or their gravitas – and there’s nothing wrong with taking this all in and channelling this in your own work – but don’t forget to be your authentic self, gravitas comes with authenticity. Your actions will be more natural and there is no one you are more suited to being than yourself.
