Jacquetta Clark

Jacquetta Clark

Name: Jacquetta Clark
Job: Photographer and Artist
Industry: Creative
Class of: 2012
House: Law

What do you do?

I am a freelance Photographer and Digital Artist.

How did you get to where you are today?

From a young age, I knew I wanted to do something creative so I studied Fine Art at Duncan of Jordanstone in Dundee. Whilst studying Art, I specialised in Photography and started working on the side as a photographer for events at the University. As a result, I ended up photographing everything: from balls, to dance shows, to exhibitions. After leaving art school, I was hired by the University to photograph their external art exhibitions. This gave me the opportunity to photograph some amazing artists, from Jade Montserrat to Ulay. From here I moved to London where I worked in-house for a couple of companies whilst keeping up my own creative work on the side before taking the leap to go freelance.

What is a standout memory of your time at The High School of Glasgow?

There are so many amazing memories from my time at the High School. One of the most memorable has to be the Fashion and Art trip to London. It was the first time I had visited London and I was blown away by the art and fashion. We went to the V&A, Savile Row, Spitalfields Market, and even met designer Paul Smith at his headquarters.

What one piece of advice would you give to current pupils and recent leavers as they look to their futures?

For those who want to go into the creative field, I would say use that drive and run with it. There is no straightforward route into a creative career, so make sure to remind yourself why you want to be in this industry. Importantly, don’t get deterred by the difficulties of getting started. Once you are getting paid to do something creative, crazy and fun that you love, it will be worth it.
