Katy Tulips

Name: Katy Tulips
Job: HR Business Partner, Sigma Connected
Industry: Human Resources
Class of: 2006
House: Clyde

What do you do?

I am an HR Business Partner for a business process outsourcer and offshore consultancy firm with offices across four counties. I am responsible for the UK, working strategically with our operational teams to develop new processes, procedures and policies to best suit all employees, our business goals and values. More specifically, I advise on employee relations cases and contribute towards continuous improvement through data analysis of all key performance indicators.

How did you get to where you are today?

I started off at Strathclyde University doing a degree in Hospitality Management, but I had the opportunity to take a course within the business school. This ultimately led to me choosing Human Resources.

My first graduate job was in recruitment, an industry I worked within for around six years before deciding to undertake a distance course to gain my HR qualification (CIPD HR Management). From here, I was lucky enough to be offered a role in a dual recruitment and employee relations role and the rest is history!

What is a standout memory of your time at The High School of Glasgow?

There are so many to pick from, but I would say the World War I Battlefields trip. The opportunity to visit the areas we had learnt so much about and soak in the new modern-day culture was invaluable.

What one piece of advice would you give to current pupils and recent leavers as they look to their futures?

Do not panic if you aren’t 100% sure of what you want to do – have a good work ethic and drive, and you will work it out!
