The Elmbank Street Closure: 50th Anniversary Reunion

On Wednesday 1 July, more than 50 former pupils from the classes of 1975-77 reunited to mark 50 years since the Old Boys’ School closed its doors.

The group began the day with a tour of the Pavilion at Old Anniesland before moving over to the current school building. As they wandered the halls of the High School as it is today, displays of Elmbank Street memorabilia, the Assembly Hall lectern and the War Memorial transported many back to their own school days.

Joined by a small number of their former teachers, the group then gathered to bid farewell to the old Elmbank Street building, recreating the final school photograph they had taken together 50 years earlier.

The day proved to be a wonderful success, thanks to the efforts of organisers Ewan Cameron (Class of 1977) and Nigel McQuoid (Class of 1976).
