Class of 1973 mark momentous 50 year reunion

27 members of the Class of 1973 came together here at Old Anniesland on Saturday 30th September to celebrate a special anniversary – 50 years since they bid farewell to Elmbank Street!

It was brilliant welcoming everyone, being able to show them a glimpse into life at HSOG today and highlight how things may well have changed since their own time at the School.

The celebrations kickstarted at around 10.30am, with welcome teas and coffees provided in The John Shaw Science Wing before tours commenced (led by Head of Senior School, Kenneth Robertson and assisted by School Captain, Thom, and House Captains, Leo and Zu-An).

Arriving at the Jimmie Ireland Stand shortly before 12.30pm guests had the chance to mingle further over a welcome glass of fizz and a trip down memory lane in the form of old school photographs and magazines (some kindly provided by guests themselves).

Shortly before lunch was served, class year organiser and former Chair of Governors, Stewart MacAulay, formally welcomed everyone before Rector, John O’Neill, delivered an update on today’s HSOG.

Also joining the group for their 50 year anniversary celebrations was former Elmbank Street teacher, Mr Bob Byiers. A brilliant surprise!

We always enjoy welcoming our former pupils back to HSOG, so please do reach out to our External Relations Team at community@hsog.co.uk if you’re considering arranging your own reunion. We’d love to help.
