Charity Golf Day 2020

6th March 2020, by HSOG Community

Join us for the 5th Annual HSOG Charity Golf Day, to be held at Milngavie Golf Club on Friday 12 June.

Over the years, the HSOG Charity Golf Day has been a great success, in large part down to a number of individuals behind the scenes. We are indebted to the support of the Adair family, and more specifically, Mrs Elaine Adair. Elaine was a stalwart when it came to the HSOG Charity Golf Day. She would be there to help in any way – be it welcoming guests, collating the scores or selling raffle tickets. She loved the event and she loved The High School of Glasgow. We were devastated to learn of Elaine’s passing in August 2019.

To remember all the great fun that Elaine brought to the event, this year we will be placing Elaine’s name on the trophy. Alongside this, all funds raised will not only be in memory of Elaine, but be directed to the part of The High School which she was most fond of, the Junior School. The Annual Fund project for the Junior School this year is the creation of an Outdoor Learning and Nurture Space, the HSOG Charity Golf Day will support this project.

Please join us on the day, we would be delighted to see as many former pupils, current and former parents and friends taking part, supporting this fantastic event and remembering Elaine.

How to book your team

The entry fee is £300 per team of 4. To book your team, please email the Development Office: development@hsog.co.uk or telephone: 0141 954 9628.

About the event

Badaboom have kindly agreed to support the event once again. Our thanks to former pupils, Duncan Frew and John Hannay. Badaboom will provide participants with a complimentary refreshment (or two!) during their round.

If you would like to sponsor the event or donate a raffle/auction prize, please get in touch with the Development Office: development@hsog.co.uk

Event Information

Every participant will be welcomed to Milngavie Golf Club from 11.30am with a hot filled roll and a cup of tea/coffee as the signing in takes place in the clubhouse.

Should you wish, there will also be a glass of prosecco available before setting off on to the course at 12.30pm.

The golf will start at 1pm and everyone will be entered in to all the on-course competitions. There will be nearest the pin, longest drive and similar challenges on most holes.

After making your way back to the clubhouse and freshening up, we will have our prize-giving ceremony followed by a 2 course meal.

After the meal competitors will be most welcome to enjoy the rest of their evening in the clubhouse.

Event Format

The competition will take the format of a Texas Scramble, with a tee off time at 1pm.

For those unfamiliar with a Texas Scramble, here is a rough outline of the rules:

All members of the team tee off. One of these drives is chosen to be used for the next shot, all members of the team place their balls where the chosen drive ended up and all the team play a second shot from this spot. From these second shots, one is chosen and all play a third shot from there – and so on until the ball is holed. Each team returns one score for each hole. The team with the lowest score for the round wins. At least four drives from every team member must be used during the course of the round. The handicap for each team will be determined by taking 1/10th of the combined four handicaps.
