Thanks a Million!

After first launching the Annual Fund in September 2013, we are delighted to report that the total figure raised has surpassed £1,000,000 (including Gift Aid) with a total number of 1143 donations over the last six years.

The Annual Fund was established to help fund short term projects at both our Junior and Senior Schools, as well as continuing to grow the Bursary Fund.

These short term projects have included the refurbishment of the Lecture Theatre at the Senior School in 2013, which has been used regularly ever since, hosting our highly popular S6 Friday Lecture Series and the annual Fraser Lecture.

In 2014, funds were raised to support the installation of a state of the art water-based astro pitch at Old Anniesland while the Junior School benefited from music and drama resources.

In 2015 the School received a fantastic new minibus, whilst in 2016 funds were raised for the amazing and valuable Health and Wellbeing Centre at the Senior School, a space that has really transformed how our School Nurse can care for and support our young people.

2017 saw the Senior School Assembly Hall have a new organ installed, aiding the whole school assembly every morning. This instrument has significantly improved the quality of the sound for our traditional hymn singing, which reflects part of the Christian heritage of the School.

In 2018, 100 years since the guns fell silent on the Western Front, as an act of remembrance for Former Pupils who sadly lost their lives during The Great War and the Second World War, funds were raised to install a number of bespoke memorial benches at the Senior School. At the Junior School, funds were raised to see the installation of a Trim Trail, due for completion in 2020.

The Bursary Fund has been supported every year by the Annual Fund. A total of £583,777 has been directed to the fund (this figure doesn’t include the current Appeal). In keeping with the ethos of the School, we offer bursaries to those young people who have demonstrated the ability and drive to benefit from, and contribute to, the educational experience of The High School but who require financial support. Our school motto, ‘Sursum Semper’, asks us all to constantly strive for greater heights and we believe that the bursary scheme is a true reflection of this ambition. As we continue to open up The High School to more families, we live up to our motto – our pupils achieve greater heights of academic and personal success and our school becomes a more diverse and inclusive community.

Our 2019 Annual Fund is supporting the chosen projects of an Outdoor Learning and Nurture Space at the Junior School and DofE equipment at the Senior School, alongside support for the Bursary Fund.

Thank you to everyone who has, and continues to, support the Annual Fund. Your generosity and love for The High School of Glasgow is why we have achieved the success that we have.
